Long long ago, all the planets were at peace. This period of time, called the Silver Millennium.   The universe was ruled by one women, Queen Serenity, who lived on Earths Moon with her daughter Princess Serena. She ruled fairly and the planets prospored. The Moon Kingdom was the leading emperor, and all the planets paid homage to its rule.  This royal family was comprised of the Queen Serenity and her daughter, Princess Serena. In addition to this, a young Prince from Earth, with a pure soul (Darien) was in love with the Princess. Although forbidden by their societies, they still cared for one another deeply and he vowed to be her eternal protector.

However, a threat to this long-lasting peace existed in the form of the Negaverse. During this forgotten period, the royal family of the Moon was engaged in a vicious war against the Negaforce. The Negaverse was the direct opposite of the universe of the Moon Kingdom. It was a place of hatred, deceit, cruelty, torment, and evil. The Negaforce was a being of pure evil. Its servants, led by Queen Beryl, & her generals; Jedite, Nephrite, Zoicite, Malachite, were to ravage the universe. The moon kingdom was their primary target.   The Negaverse itself was ruled by an evil woman, Queen Beryl.  She planned to conquer the universe, starting with the Moon Kingdom.

During a lunar eclipse, Queen Beryl led her army to the moon, and quickly began their attack. In the middle of the battle Serena gave darien (prince of earth), who is her true love, her star locket so he would never forget her.  It is said they wanted the royal family's "Imperium Silver Crystal," which contained immense power. The royal family was to defend it at all cost, along with the rest of the galaxy.  It ended almost as quickly as it had started.  The kingdom was all but destroyed. No one could save the two lovers. As the Queen watched her only child dying and her world in tatters, she summoned the last of the Crystal's power The warriors of the Moon Kingdom were no match for the overwhelming, relentless forces of the Negaverse. Four young girls, the princesses of their respected planets (the sailor scouts), attempted to fight off the tremendous Negaforce, but their attempt proved to be futile. Queen Beryl succeeded in defeating the Moon Kingdom and killing everyone, including Queen Serenity's only daughter.

After the decisive battle, the Negaverse claimed victory. Queen Serenity knew that she could not let the Negaverse win. She resorted to one final act. Using the power of her Imperium Silver Crystal, Queen Serenity purged the universe of its invaders.. She wished for her child (and court) to be reborn on Earth. But this was not without a cost: Should evil arise again, those she wished to be reborn would now fight against it.  Queen Beryl, the Negaforce, and the Negaverse's army were all sent back to the Negaverse. Also, she sent many of her people away, so that they may live in peace once again. Her daughter, along with her court of princesses and their two cats advisors, was sent one thousand years into the future, to the present-day earth. Queen Serenity gave her life, so that her people, and her universe could live in peace once more. She knew her daughter must live on, because she was destined to be the next Queen of the Universe.

But if Queen Beryl tried to break into our universe once again, Luna and Artemis (the cats advisors)would find and alert the Sailor Scouts to fight off any new threats from the evil Queen.Queen Beryl had sworn that she would conquer the universe and one thousand years after the destruction of the Moon Kingdom, she had her chance once again. This is when the adventures of Sailor Moon and her friends really begins.
